Daltonganj, Jan 10: The Latehar district police are set to conduct a significant outreach event on Saturday, January 11, in the areas of Douna and Durup, located under the Mahuadanr police station limits.

Douna and Durup are Maoist citadels. Here ultras make or mar peace. Just last year, these ultras set fire to the surface equipment of BSNL’s cellular network towers, further highlighting the area’s volatile situation.

Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav told the Jharkhand Story correspondent today, “It’s our honest initiative to cement the gap between the public and the police. It’s our bonding with the law-abiding citizens there.”

“People of Douna and Durup feel they are at yonder with the administration. This cut off sentiments that locals of these two locations nurture, our police want to melt it. We are to make them feel that Latehar district police is as much for them as it is for the people living in and around the limits of the police station,” reminded Gaurav.

Asked if this outreach would cut through the base of the Naxals here who frequent these places off and on to which SP Latehar Kumar Gaurav said, “It’s our CBM. It’s confidence-building measure. It is an attempt to win the trust of the people. The trust of a common man in police or better say administrative set up is a kind of detachment and disenchantment with the Naxals.”

Gaurav added that Naxals are already facing erosion and they find space and time most shortening to them.

Raising awareness on witchcraft and cyber fraud

Reminded that such outreach offers police to launch an awareness campaign against Dyne Bisahi (witchcraft) to which Gaurav said, ” Yes. That sort of campaign will be here too. A mini one-act play will be staged to emphasize the importance of rejecting the belief in witchcraft. Practicing witchcraft is a criminal offence and carries serious legal consequences.”

Cases of cyber fraud are heard equally in towns and villages alike where people are deceived by fraudsters in the name of Kissan Loan or Kissan Credit Card or Bijlee Maaf scheme etc.

Will this outreach of police be used to make people aware and alert for such fraud calls?

Gaurav said, “Yes it’s our top priority. We will tell the masses to remain alert for such fraud calls.”

Combating human trafficking in Mahuadanr

Mahuadanr is one such block in Latehar which has a notoriety of human trafficking. Children mostly girls are tricked into human trafficking. All in the name of dreams of good food, good education and lots of money.

The Douna and Durup show of the Latehar district police is set to focus on the evils of human trafficking.
