2nd capacity workshop on Asian Waterbird Census held in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Jan 25: The second capacity building workshop was jointly organised at Telco Club in Jamshedpur today by Wetlands International South Asia, Tata Motors and Shrushti Conservation Foundation.

The first workshop was organised at Tata Steel Zoological Park on January 9.

Experts share insights on biodiversity and waterbird monitoring

The primary objective of the workshop was to promote wetlands conservation and waterbird monitoring through heightened awareness and active citizen participation.

Saba Alam Ansari, conservator of forests, Jharkhand, attended the event which was accompanied by other officials of the forest department and Tata Motors.

Pranav Kumar from Tata Motors shared his extensive experiences on biodiversity across the country, while Dr Vijaya Bharat, expert local birder and member of the State Asian Waterbird Census Network, contributed with perspectives throughout the session.

The workshop concluded with a productive discussion and formulation of a survey implementation plan scheduled to take place in January and February.

Wetlands and waterbirds: A call for action

The key facilitators- Arghya Chakrabarty from Wetlands International South Asia, and Mrugank Prabhu from Shrushti Conservation Foundation elaborated on the critical role of wetlands, importance of waterbirds in monitoring the health of wetlands and the role of citizens and volunteers in the conduct of Asian Waterbird Census.

Tata Steel Zoological Park is also playing a catalyst role in bringing various stakeholders on single platform for the said waterbird census and bringing education and awareness among the local people of Jamshedpur.

Notably, the findings of the census will help the policymakers to formulate the area-specific strategy for the conservation of water-birds in the district.
