Jamshedpur, Dec 2: Police and paramilitary forces recovered a powerful IED (Improvised Explosive Device) from the Naxal-infested Goelkera Thana area in West Singhbhum district about 140 km away from here on Saturday.
IED detonated
The IED which weighed 8 kg was planted on a forest path at Maradiri jungle in the Goelkera Thana area bordering the Tonto Thana area.
The explosive device was planted by the members of the outlawed outfit CPI-Maoist aiming to inflict injury to the paramilitary forces who are engaged in carrying out anti-insurgency operations in the area.
The bomb disposal squad of the CRPF later detonated the IED on the same stretch of the forest road.

Huge Naxal presence in Kolhan forest
It may be mentioned here that a large number of Naxals, including several top leaders of the outfit have sneaked into the dense Kolhan forest division part of which falls under the Goelkera Thana area since January this year.
The Naxals have planted an unspecified number of IEDs in the Kolhan forest while trying to turn it into a safe haven for them. The police and the paramilitary forces are trying to flush the Naxals out from the forest cover but while doing so they have to first detect the IEDs which have been planted at strategic points to cause harm to them.
So far three CRPF jawans were killed in the operation and about two dozen jawans have been injured while carrying out the operations that began in January itself.
