Jamshedpur, Feb 17: A young man, identified as Mohammed Ishrar, was shot and injured by a suspect with a criminal background in a densely populated area under the Jugsalai police station limits on Sunday night.

The victim, a resident of Garib Nawaz Colony in Jugsalai, has been admitted to Tata Main Hospital for treatment.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the police launched an investigation and recovered multiple empty cartridges from the crime scene.

Preliminary investigations and statements from the victim’s family revealed that the attacker, identified as Bhakud, opened fire on Ishrar following a dispute.

The accused, also a resident of Jugsalai, has since gone into hiding, prompting the police to initiate a manhunt.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Jugsalai police station stated that Bhakud has a criminal record and was recently released on bail.

“Both the accused, Bhakud, and the victim, Ishrar, are drug addicts. A dispute between them led Bhakud to open fire, but it was not a targeted attack,” the OC told The Jharkhand Story.

However, unconfirmed sources suggest that both Bhakud and Ishrar were involved in the illegal trade of brown sugar, and the shooting stemmed from a financial dispute related to their dealings.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
