Ranchi, Feb 22: A special Lok Adalat focusing on cheque bounce and marriage-related cases was held in Ranchi on February 22, 2025. Organized under the guidance of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and on the instructions of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (Jhalsa), the session aimed to provide swift resolutions to pending cases. The event was inaugurated with a lamp-lighting ceremony.

Judicial Officers Urge Faster Case Resolution

The session was attended by Judicial Commissioner-cum-DLSA Chairman Diwakar Pandey, Family Court Judge S.S. Fatmi, Ranchi District Bar Association President Shambhu Prasad Agarwal, General Secretary Sanjay Vidrohi, DLSA Secretary Kamlesh Behra along with additional judicial commissioners, magistrates, and other legal professionals.

Speaking at the event, Sanjay Vidrohi highlighted that Ranchi has consistently led in Lok Adalat case resolutions. He encouraged judicial officers to settle reconcilable cases without waiting for Lok Adalat sessions by resolving them directly in court or referring them to the Mediation Centre.

Diwakar Pandey emphasized the critical role of mediators and advocates in case settlements. He commended the Ranchi District Bar Association for its cooperation in resolving cases and urged judicial officers to take proactive steps in disposing of pending matters.

Major Case Settlements

For this special Lok Adalat, 18 benches were set up, leading to the following outcomes:

  • 1,503 cheque bounce cases were resolved, with a total settlement amount of ₹3,26,91,121 (₹3.26 crore).
  • 307 marriage-related cases were settled.

Pre-Lok Adalat Efforts Ensure Success

To ensure maximum case resolution, pre-Lok Adalat meetings were conducted from February 17 to 21, 2025. Notices were sent to litigants in advance, and several coordination meetings were held between the DLSA Secretary, Judicial Magistrates, Police Administration, and Bank Officials. These efforts helped streamline case settlements and reduce the backlog in courts.
