Dhanbad, Feb 26: Dr. Anant Sinha, a renowned plastic surgeon and burns treatment expert from Ranchi, has been honored with the prestigious national Mrs. Phoolan Devi Gupta Award by the National Academy of Burns India (NABI) for the year 2024-25.

This national recognition comes in acknowledgment of his remarkable contributions to the field of burns care.
Dr. Sinha, who completed his MS in surgery from Rajendra Medical College Hospital (now RIMS) Ranchi in the 1986-86 session, is the first doctor from Jharkhand to receive this distinguished award.

Pioneering Efforts in Burn Care Facilities
Dr. Sinha’s dedication to improving burn care in Jharkhand began after the creation of the state. He was the first to establish an 8-bed burn health center at Dev Kamal Hospital in Ranchi and later expanded his efforts by founding the 300-bed Devnika Hospital in the state capital, providing much-needed care for burn victims. His contributions to the field of burns treatment have significantly improved patient outcomes in the region.

Leadership in National Awareness and Training
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Sinha served as the President of the National Academy of Burns India (NABI) in 2023-24. Under his leadership, awareness about burn treatment was elevated across various cities in India.
He organized 11 workshops and educated over one lakh individuals about burn care. His efforts in spreading knowledge have been instrumental in raising public awareness and improving the standard of care nationwide.

Veteran plastic surgeon Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh, a member of the Plastic Surgeons Association of India (PSAI), who mentored Dr. Sinha at Rajendra Medical College Hospital, praised his pioneering work in burn treatment.
Dr. Singh emphasized that Dr. Sinha and his team redefined the treatment of burn injuries, making a profound impact on the medical community in Jharkhand and beyond. Dr. Singh expressed immense pride in Dr. Sinha’s achievement, calling it a proud moment for the state.

Commitment to Education and Accessibility in Burn Care
Throughout his career, Dr. Sinha has remained committed to increasing awareness of burn prevention and treatment. Over the past 18 years, he has conducted more than 100 educational meetings in schools across Ranchi and surrounding areas.
His focus on making burn treatment more economical and accessible, along with his initiative to create smaller burn units in districts and towns, was a key factor in him receiving this prestigious national award.
Dr. Sinha, who completed his MBBS from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and M.Ch from PGI, continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of burn patients.
