RBI engages with customers in Jamshedpur to address banking concerns

Jamshedpur, March 1: In a bid to further strengthen the bond between customers and banks over monetary transactions, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Saturday organised a meeting at Hotel Ramada in Bistupur.

Attended by scores of businessmen, entrepreneurs as well as common account-holders and representatives various commercial banks, the meeting was a center stage for discussion over several contentious issues in the spectrum of monetary transactions.

Presiding over the meeting, Sujeet Kumar Arvind, Regional Director, RBI, Patna interacted with the customers and called upon them to feel free to be forthcoming with grievances or doubts, if any, regarding the monetary transactions with the bank.

Exchange Process for ₹2,000 Notes and Counterfeit Concerns

While stressing on a closer cooperation between the banks and customers, the RBI Regional Director shared valuable information about things like exchange of damaged currency notes, legality of one rupee small coins and also about exchange of now-defunct Rs 2,000 currency notes.

Arvind informed that those who need to exchange the Rs 2,000 currency notes may approach the RBI Corporation office and can get the defunct notes exchanged there by availing the postal service easily.

At the meeting, matters related to counterfeit notes were deliberated and ways to get rid of this menace discussed.

Grievance Redressal and Attendees

The RBI regional director pointed out that if any customer has any contentious issue with any bank, he or she should try to get it settled by consulting the bank concerned. He stated that in case the matter remains unsolved, then the aggrieved customer may approach the RBI but within a stipulated time only.

Others who attended the meeting include Vinita Topno, General Manager, RBI, Patna; Manoj Kumar, General Manager, Bank of India; Sanjib Kumar Nath, Deputy General Manager, State Bank of India; AP Das, Deputy General Manager, Bank of India and RC Goel, Regional Head, Central Bank of India.
