Ranchi, March 21: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought prosecution sanction from the government against Sanjeev Lal, the former private secretary of ex-Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam. Along with the request for prosecution sanction, the ED has also sent documents related to his discrepancies.

Earlier, the ED had shared information gathered during the investigation under Section 66(2) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) with the government and recommended filing an FIR. However, there has been no update from the government regarding the registration of the FIR.

The ED had conducted a search at Sanjeev Lal’s house and office, during which they seized documents related to movable and immovable assets, along with cash worth ₹10 lakh.

During the investigation, the ED had summoned contractor Munna Singh for questioning. Munna Singh claimed that he had collected ₹53 crore as commission and given it to Sanjeev Lal.

During interrogation, Sanjeev Lal admitted to receiving ₹2.05 crore as his share of the commission but did not provide any details about the expenditure of this amount.

The investigation also revealed that Sanjeev Lal had purchased 3.56 acres of agricultural land in Khunti district in the name of his wife, Rita Lal. The ED questioned Rita Lal about the source of funds for the land purchase, but she could not provide any information.

Further investigation confirmed a large sum of cash deposited in Sanjeev Lal’s accounts, and a significant discrepancy was found between his income and the deposits in his bank accounts.
