Dhanbad, Dec 6: Altogether 11 candidates filed their nominations for different posts a day ahead of the deadline fixed for filing papers for the Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad Teachers Association’s polls.

The voting will be held on December 20.

Chief election officer Prof (retired) SKL Das said that a total of 11 teachers (including five females) filed nominations today. They include five candidates for the post of vice-president, three for secretary, one each for president, general secretary and treasurer.

Lone candidate for president

Dr DK Singh of the chemistry postgraduate department was the lone candidate who filed a nomination for the post of president. Dr Amulya Suman Beck, political science postgraduate department filed for the post of general secretary, Dr Sunita Khalkho of BSK College Maithon, Sarmishtha Acharya of Sindri College Sindri, Dr Avinash Kumar, RS More College Govindpur, Dr Manohar Manjhi, KB College Bermo filed nomination for vice-president.

 Joint secretaries

Dr Binita Soreng, SSLNT Women’s College, Dr Alisha Bandana Lakra ( KB College Bermo, and Dr Priyaranjna Hansda filed for the post of joint secretary.
Besides them, Dr Jayagopal Mandal of the post-graduate department filed the nomination for the post of treasurer.

Though all 11 candidates had come with supporters of respective college for filing nomination, the supporters of president post candidate Dr DK Singh was the centre of attraction in which teachers of the graduate department, including  PGTA president Dr Bhagwan Pathak, gathered in a large number.

Candidates who filed nominations on the third day

Out of seven election committee members, only three officers (Dr SKL Das, Dr RS Yadav and Dr  SK Sinha) were present to receive nomination papers. The coordinator of the election, Dr KM Singh, the lone woman member of the committee Dr Uma Mageswary (Bokaro Steel City College), Dr OP Sinha and Dr DN Singh were absent.

Women teachers

Former East Zone Teachers Association coordinator Prof (retired) GC Jha hailed the participation of women teachers in the election and said that it is a silver lining for the teachers’ body. “I welcome the participation of women candidates in large numbers and hope they will do their best.   To date, teachers’ association was male-dominated. Now they (women teachers) are coming to participate and it is highly appreciable,” said Dr Jha.
