Jharkhand News: Lack of duty doctor stalls Ayushman services at Prakash Eye Care in Palamu

Daltonganj, April 7: Eye treatment under Ayushman Yojna is on hold for about seven or eight months for want of a duty doctor here in the prestigious Prakash Eye Care at Rehla in Palamu district.

For an eye hospital, a duty doctor is mandated under the Ayushman Yojna. However here in Palamu, no MBBS doctor is ready to serve as a duty doctor in the eye care centre.

Incidentally, Palamu district has two medical colleges. One is MMCH Daltonganj which is a state-run medical college and hospital. The other is a private medical college of the former health minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi.

District Programme Coordinator of the Ayushman Yojna Dr Premchand said the Prakash Eye Care is a panelled one under the Clinical Establishment Act where its Ayushman services are on hold for want of the duty doctor.

Once this eye care centre procures a duty doctor, its embargo on providing treatment under the Ayushman Yojna will be lifted.

This eye care has a high flow of patients and has won the trust and confidence of the people here in the whole of the Palamu division.

Civil Surgeon’s Surprise Inspection of Facilities

Civil Surgeon Palamu Dr Anil Kumar made a surprise visit to Prakash Eye Care and took stock of its sterilisation unit, operation theatre, waiting area of the patient, nursing and caring, water availability, toilet facility etc.

The sterilisation and operation segments are quite sophisticated, said the Civil Surgeon.

Dr Anil Kumar told this correspondent, “We saw ventilation, lighting, proper signage, patient movement, environment, biomedical waste management, safety.”

“The nursing staff appears to be well experienced. Their rapport with the patients and visitors is sincere,” he added.

Palamu district epidemiologist Dr Anup Kumar Singh who accompanied the Civil Surgeon also oversaw the infrastructural facilities of the eye care.

About Prakash Eye Care

The well-known eye surgeon of this eye care Dr Prakash Parimal was in Kanpur on some professional obligations there.

Dr Prakash Parimal had his stint in Shankar Netralaya and on the persistent insistence of his father he decided to set up this eye care about 32 km away from Daltonganj. The eye care is well connected with road and trains both.

The eye care has a modest cash tariff for foldable lens of cataract surgery. It starts with 12,500 to 1,25,000 rupees.

Palamu’s High Cataract Incidence

Palamu has a high incidence of cataracts. It was discovered in the last Swasthya Mela held in the length and breadth of Palamu.

Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said, “Palamu District Health Society is committed to improving the health care of its people. We trust our doctors and paramedics and seek their active cooperation in providing the best available treatment.”
