Dhanbad, April 12: The five-day Leadership and Management Development Program for Panchayati Raj representatives concluded at IIT ISM Dhanbad.

The institute had organized the event in collaboration with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India, with elected representatives from Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand participating.

Focus on Rural Development and Governance

Amitabh Ranjan, Registrar of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) and a recently appointed member of the advisory board of the Solar Future Alliance, delivered the keynote address at the closing ceremony.

In his speech, he emphasized rural development, governance challenges, and strategic solutions for empowering local institutions. Notably, Ranjan is an IIT ISM alumnus, having completed his B.Tech in Petroleum Engineering in the 1993 batch.

Sharing Learnings and Driving Change

Sakuntala Mishra, President of Deepti Ladies Club, and Nandini Chakravarty, Managing Director of Mine Line Pvt. Ltd., also interacted with participants, encouraging them to share their learnings and experiences.

Prof. Rajni Singh, Dean of Corporate Communications and Program Coordinator, motivated participants to drive positive change in their communities, aligning their initiatives with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those aimed at promoting women’s empowerment.

Skill Development and Practical Exposure

Sunil Kumar, Coordinator of the Skill Development Programme at IIT (ISM), spoke about the objectives of the “Skill India” initiative. He highlighted efforts to train millions in vocational skills and promote socio-economic inclusion through the National Skill Development Corporation.

The program featured sessions on leadership, teamwork, rural technology, financial governance, and project monitoring.

Participants also undertook field visits to the Jharia Coalfield, DVC Maithon Dam, and IIT (ISM)’s advanced laboratories to gain practical insights.
