Bijapur, April 24: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against Naxalism, security forces killed three Naxalites during a major anti-Naxal operation in the dense Karegutta forests of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, police confirmed on Thursday.

The operation, which was launched on April 21, is part of intensified efforts to flush out Naxal elements from the region.

This development came just days after a major surrender in Narayanpur, where five active Naxals—four of them women—laid down arms.

The surrendered rebels were identified as Dasri Dhruv (26), Channu Gota (28), Jyoti Vadde (19), Sita Vadde (19), and Sunita Vadde (25). Each of them was provided a cheque of ₹50,000 as part of the government’s rehabilitation scheme.

Speaking about the surrender, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Gangaram Chavan stated that the Naxals, originally from Maad in Chhattisgarh and Nuapada in Odisha, would be extended full benefits under the government’s surrender policy.

“Some of the surrendered Naxalites carried bounties of ₹5 to ₹8 lakh. They come from various ranks within the organization and will be rehabilitated according to the policy,” Chavan added.
