New Delhi, June 3: A meeting of the INDIA bloc was held on Tuesday to press for a special session of Parliament in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor. 16 opposition parties participated in the meeting and jointly signed a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding the session.

The opposition parties had earlier extended their full support to the government’s response to the Pahalgam attack, including Congress and other major parties. Following Operation Sindoor, they reiterated the demand for a special parliamentary session to allow the nation to formally express gratitude to the armed forces and for the government to present its account of events.

The opposition bloc stated that the government must clarify its stance on several critical issues, including Operation Sindoor, the U.S.-backed ceasefire, efforts to diplomatically isolate Pakistan, and the broader strategy to eliminate terrorism. They argued that discussions on such matters must be held in Parliament, as they are of national interest and concern to the 1.4 billion citizens of India.

Congress MP Deepender Hooda confirmed that 16 political parties have urged Prime Minister Modi to call for a special session. Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav expressed concern that while the world is being briefed about Operation Sindoor, India’s own Parliament has not received an official briefing.

Shiv Sena (Uddhav) MP Sanjay Raut criticized the government, saying that while the Prime Minister was willing to halt military operations at America’s behest, he seemed unwilling to call a session at the request of India’s opposition. “Should we ask Donald Trump to request a special session?” he quipped sarcastically.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Congress, Samajwadi Party, TMC, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), RJD, National Conference, CPI(M), IUML, CPI, Revolutionary Socialist Party, JMM, Kerala Congress, MDMK, and CPI(ML), among others.
