THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Ranchi, June 4: Tribal organisations across Jharkhand observed a statewide bandh on Wednesday in protest against the construction of the Sirmatoli-MECON flyover ramp near a sacred Sarna Sthal.

Demonstrations were held across various parts of Ranchi, where protestors blocked main roads and expressed their opposition to the state government’s policies. The bandh witnessed large-scale participation, particularly in Ranchi and surrounding districts.

The agitation caused significant disruptions in traffic and affected businesses, transportation, and public services.

By around 3 PM, the protestors concluded their demonstrations. Marking the end of their protest, they shared khichdi with one another before clearing the roads and allowing traffic to resume.

Major intersections in Ranchi — including Jodapul, Kanke, Sirmatoli Munda Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk, Sahjanand Chowk, and Piska More — witnessed road blockades by protestors.

Burning tyres and physical obstructions brought vehicular movement to a halt, causing inconvenience to commuters. At Albert Ekka Chowk, tribal groups shut down shops and blocked the road. Compared to regular days, the city saw significantly fewer vehicles on the roads.

The bandh had a visible impact across the state, disrupting normal life as shops, offices, and public transport services were affected. However, the protest remained peaceful and concluded without any major incidents.
