Jharkhand Govt approves faculty posts for new engineering colleges

Ranchi, June 4: In a significant move to strengthen technical education in Jharkhand, the state Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, on Wednesday approved the creation of teaching and non-teaching posts for two newly established government engineering colleges in Bokaro and Godda. The appointments will be made as per AICTE norms.

The Cabinet also took several other decisions related to infrastructure, governance, and welfare schemes. Key highlights include:

• Gig Workers’ Welfare Bill: Approval was granted for enacting the Jharkhand Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Bill, 2025, aimed at regulating and supporting gig economy workers in the state.
• Garhwa Water Supply Project: Revised administrative sanction of ₹59.71 crore was approved for the augmentation and strengthening of the Garhwa Urban Water Supply Scheme.
• Road Development in Pakur: The Cabinet sanctioned ₹40.39 crore for the widening and reconstruction of the Pakur-Barharwa road, including land acquisition and utility shifting.
• Teacher Reinstatement Orders: The Cabinet approved reinstatement and pension benefits for assistant teachers in government girls’ schools whose appointments were earlier declared irregular, in compliance with court directives.
• New Aadhaar Centres in Govt Offices: Approval was given for establishing Aadhaar Update Centres (Update Client Lite) in government buildings like panchayat bhavans and urban local body offices, through CSC-SPV, following UIDAI’s new in-house model.
• Amendment in Water Tariff Policy: The Cabinet approved retrospective changes to the water tariff notification issued in 2011.
• Reorganization of Information Department: Sanction was given for the restructuring of sanctioned posts in the Department of Information and Public Relations.
• Prison Medical Staffing: Approval was granted for the transfer of sanctioned doctor posts in state prisons to streamline healthcare services.
• Mineral Corporation Appointments: The Mines Secretary and Director were named ex-officio Chairman and MD, respectively, of the Jharkhand State Mineral Development Corporation.
• Delegation of Powers under Mining Act: Post-facto approval was given for delegating certain powers under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
