Dhanbad, June 15: The 5th Jharkhand Open Rapid Chess Tournament, carrying a prize pool of ₹1 lakh, will be held at the Arka Jain University campus in Gamharia on 21–22 June.
Organised by the Saraikela-Kharsawan District Chess Association (SKDCA), the event is expected to attract top players from across the state. The tournament will be conducted in two groups:
- Group A – Open to unrated players only
- Group B – Open to both rated and unrated players
SKDCA General Secretary Ajay Kumar stated that the top 30 players in both groups will be awarded cash prizes and trophies. In addition, boys and girls in the Under-6, Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16 categories will also receive prizes.

Anirudh Sahu, one of the organisers, announced that participants will be provided free lunch and complimentary pick-up and drop services. The tournament will be officiated by national-level arbiters to ensure fair and professional play.
An organising committee has been formed to oversee the event, comprising:
- Dr Angat Tiwari (President)
- Dr Rupa Sarkar (Coordinator)
- Vishal Kumar (Convener)
- Ajay Kumar (Tournament Director)
