IMD forecasts heavy rain, thunderstorms in Jharkhand this week

Jamshedpur, June 16: Jharkhand is poised to experience a spell of intense rainfall and thunderstorms over the coming days, particularly in the south-western and north-central regions.

According to the meteorological update, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur from June 16 to June 19 at isolated places across various parts of the state.

Accompanying the rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected to impact several regions intermittently during this period.

June 16: Heavy rainfall over south-west and adjoining central districts. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are likely at isolated spots.

June 17: Very heavy rainfall may lash some south-western districts, while heavy showers will continue in nearby central regions. Thunderstorm activity remains a threat.

June 18: Very heavy rainfall is expected to shift northward, affecting north-central and north-eastern districts. Simultaneously, north-western regions may also see heavy downpours.

June 19: The spell continues with heavy rainfall over north-central and adjoining north-eastern districts, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Monsoon Update

The Northern Limit of the Southwest Monsoon currently passes through parts of Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, and eastern Nepal.

Conditions are favourable for further advancement into Gujarat, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh over the next 72 hours.

Synoptic Conditions

A cyclonic circulation is hovering over the northwest Bay of Bengal, contributing to active rainfall over the eastern region.

A trough line extends from East Madhya Pradesh to Bangladesh, cutting across Jharkhand, enhancing moisture incursion and instability.

An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over East Uttar Pradesh, likely aiding storm development.
