Jamshedpur, June 18: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for extremely heavy to heavy rainfall across various parts of Jharkhand and its adjoining states on June 18 and 19, as the southwest monsoon continues its progress.

On June 18, extremely heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations in eastern Jharkhand, while very heavy showers may occur in adjoining central districts.

Southern-western and north-eastern parts of the state may also receive heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h.

On June 19, similar alerts remain in place for north-central and north-eastern regions of the state.

The southwest monsoon has advanced over parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal, with favourable conditions for further spread over the remaining areas in the next two days.

A low-pressure system over southwest Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal, along with an upper air cyclonic circulation, is influencing the region’s weather.

A trough line extends from Gujarat to Jharkhand, contributing to the ongoing rainfall activity.

People have been advised to stay alert and follow safety guidelines, especially in vulnerable areas.
