THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, June 21: In a major development regarding Air India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken strict action against the airline over alleged negligence in following safety protocols. As per reports, three senior officials, including a Divisional Vice President, have been removed from duty due to serious lapses in safety standards.

Taking note of the violations, the aviation regulator DGCA directed Air India to relieve these officials from all crew-related responsibilities. Following the directive, the airline immediately removed them from duty.

According to sources, the DGCA issued an order on June 20, instructing Tata Group-owned Air India to initiate internal disciplinary action. Air India promptly complied with the order.

In an official statement, the airline announced that henceforth, its Chief Operating Officer (COO) would directly oversee the Integrated Operational Control Center (IOCC). The airline also assured that all safety protocols and standards would be strictly followed.

The DGCA investigation revealed that despite violations related to crew licensing and rest regulations, Air India continued to operate several flights. Voluntary disclosures by the airline reportedly confirmed serious operational breaches, but no strict action was initially taken against the responsible officials.

The DGCA has now issued a stern warning, stating that any future negligence could lead to harsh penalties, including license suspension or a ban on flight operations.

This action comes amid mounting questions around Air India’s operations, particularly after a recent incident involving a flight from Ahmedabad to London that reportedly crashed. In the wake of that incident, Air India cancelled seven flights on Friday due to operational and maintenance reasons—four on international routes and three on domestic routes.
