Bhopal, July 2: Hemant Khandelwal, a sitting MLA from Betul, was officially announced as the new Madhya Pradesh BJP president on Wednesday.
The announcement was made by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the presence of senior party figures, including outgoing state chief Vishnu Dutt Sharma, former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Union Minister Virendra Kumar.

Khandelwal was the lone contender for the post, with his nomination papers submitted on Tuesday by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who acted as his proposer. His elevation marks the end of Vishnu Dutt Sharma’s tenure, who held the top post since 2020.
A prominent face in Madhya Pradesh politics, Hemant Khandelwal brings with him a legacy of public service. He first entered Parliament in 2007 through a bypoll following the death of his father, four-time Betul MP Vijay Kumar Khandelwal. He later served as an MLA from 2013 to 2018 and returned to the assembly in 2023.

Khandelwal has also held several key organisational positions within the party, including treasurer of the state BJP and president of the Kushabhau Thakre Trust, an institution affiliated with the party. From 2010 to 2013, he led the BJP’s Betul district unit.
