Jharkhand News: Dhanbad bans DJs during Muharram procession

Dhanbad, July 2: The Dhanbad district administration has imposed a ban on the use of DJ systems during Muharram processions, scheduled to be held on July 6.

The decision was taken during a district-level Peace Committee meeting held at the New Town Hall on Tuesday, chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aditya Ranjan.

Addressing the gathering, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar emphasized that the use of DJs in religious processions has been prohibited by both the Supreme Court and the High Court. Accordingly, no DJ systems will be allowed during the Muharram procession across the district.

The SSP also urged all Akhara committees to ensure that the height of their Tazias does not obstruct movement on roads or cause inconvenience during the procession.

DC Aditya Ranjan instructed Akhara parties to strictly adhere to the designated procession routes and timings as approved by their respective local peace committees.

He further directed the Circle Officers and the Officers-in-Charge of concerned police stations to physically verify the procession routes in advance of Muharram.

The Deputy Commissioner warned of strict action against any attempts to spread misinformation or incite religious sentiments through social media. He cautioned against rumour-mongering and assured that the administration will remain vigilant.

The meeting was attended by SP (City) Ritvik Srivastava, Rural SP Kapil Choudhary, ADM (Law and Order) Hema Prasad, Town Commissioner Ravi Raj Sharma, SDM Rajesh Kumar, DRDA Director Rajiv Ranjan, and BDOs from all blocks.
