Jamshedpur, July 17: Monsoon activity remained robust across Jharkhand over the past 24 hours, bringing widespread rainfall and thunderstorms to many parts of the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms was recorded at most places, while isolated pockets witnessed heavy to very heavy downpours.

The highest rainfall of 204.0 mm was recorded at Chainpur in Palamu district, making it the wettest location in the state during the current spell.

The maximum temperature was 33.3°C in Seraikela, while the lowest minimum temperature of 21.0°C was reported from Latehar.

A well-marked low-pressure area continues to persist over southwest Bihar and adjoining eastern Uttar Pradesh, with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.

This system is likely to move west-northwestwards over the next 24 hours, influencing the weather across the region.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level now extends from northwest Rajasthan to the northeast Bay of Bengal, passing through Gwalior, the low-pressure center over southwest Bihar and east Uttar Pradesh, and parts of West Bengal.

The IMD has forecast the likelihood of thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places across Jharkhand today, urging residents to stay alert and follow safety advisories.
