Jamshedpur, July 24: Jharkhand is set to experience a fresh spell of intense monsoon activity over the next four days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across various parts of the state.

The monsoon trough currently lies over Jamshedpur and Digha, extending southeastwards into the Eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

Additionally, a cyclonic circulation — the remnant of Tropical Cyclone Wipha — is likely to emerge over the north Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. A low-pressure system is also expected to develop subsequently, potentially fueling widespread rainfall activity in the region.

Forecast Highlights

July 24:

Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over eastern and adjoining central Jharkhand.

Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds (40–50 kmph) may occur at isolated locations.

July 25:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in the south-eastern parts of the state.

Heavy rainfall is likely in most areas except some north-western districts.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty winds (30–40 kmph) at isolated places.

July 26:

Scattered heavy to isolated very heavy rain is likely over southern and central regions.

North-western districts may receive isolated heavy showers.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty winds (30–40 Kmph) to persist.

July 27:

South-western parts may experience heavy to very heavy rain.

Western and adjoining central districts are also likely to receive heavy showers.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty winds (30–40 Kmph) expected at isolated locations.

Current Monsoon Status

Jharkhand has received 647 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon season — a surplus of 52% against the normal average of 426 mm.

Despite weak monsoon activity in the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms was reported at a few places. The highest recorded rainfall was 44 mm at Ichak in Hazaribagh district.
