New Delhi, August 5: Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik passed away on Tuesday at the age of 79. He was undergoing treatment for kidney-related issues at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi.
Malik served as the last Governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019.
Notably, during his tenure, on this very day—August 5, 2019—Article 370 was abrogated, leading to the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories: Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Prior to this, Satya Pal Malik was the Governor of Bihar from October 2017 to August 2018 and also held additional charge as the Governor of Odisha from March 21 to May 28, 2018.
After the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir, he was appointed as the Governor of Goa and later served as the Governor of Meghalaya until October 2022.
