Jamshedpur, August 9: Jharkhand is set to experience continued monsoon activity over the next few days, with the meteorological department forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in several parts of the state.

On August 8, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over the north-eastern parts of Jharkhand, while thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph) may occur at isolated locations across the state.

Similar weather conditions are expected to persist on August 9 and 10, with thunderstorm activity continuing on August 11.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends from Ferozepur to Chandigarh, running east-southeastwards close to the foothills of the Himalayas and reaching northeast Arunachal Pradesh.

Additionally, an upper-air cyclonic circulation over central Bangladesh between 3.1 and 5.8 Km, tilting southwestwards with height, is contributing to the prevailing weather pattern.

Monsoon remained normal over the state in the past 24 hours, with light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms reported at most locations.

Heavy showers were recorded in a few pockets, the highest being 75.2 mm at Dumuria (West Singhbhum). The maximum temperature was recorded at 35.4°C in Seraikela on Thursday.

Rainfall statistics revealed that Jharkhand was currently facing a surplus rainfall of 43 per cent.

Against a normal rainfall of 581 mm, Jharkhand has so far recorded 830 mm of rain, resulting in such a huge surplus.
