THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, August 12: Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) faces hiccups in its preparedness for the ensuing convocation, the third in a span of its 16 years of existence.

The hiccups are of the month, date and venue for the convocation. Previously, it was in September. Now it’s in October. That too is to be cleared by the Raj Bhavan.

Again, the date of the convocation, irrespective of the month, is to be approved by the Raj Bhavan only.

Venue Conflict Between Stadium and Football Ground

There is a conflict of venue. One is the stadium. The stadium is under the district administration. This stadium has in its span of 25 years or so, never hosted any programme of such a VVIP like Governor cum Chancellor.

The stadium needs an urgent touch-up. The moot point is who will bear the expenditures for giving a facelift to this stadium – the district administration or the university.

VC’s belief is that the district administration will be spending money on the touch-up for the stadium.

The other venue is the football ground, which every election doubles up as a transport ground. However, VC is least inclined to have this ground as a venue for the convocation.

Committees Formed and Preparations Detailed

Vice Chancellor Dr Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh, who was chairing the university exams board meeting on Tuesday, took time off and came out of the board’s meeting to brief about the convocation.

He then called in the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dr Vinita Dixit, to give more details of the preparation for the coming convocation.

Vinita Dixit, who is very careful about her briefing, said, “16 committees have been set up. It starts with the organising committee down to the refreshment committee.”

There is a dress committee, which in fact is a costume committee, as over the last many years, convocation is held in Bharatiya Paridhan and not in Gowns. The convocation ceremony is now decolonised.

On being asked if there is any War Room for the convocation Vinita said, “No. We don’t have it right now. But I can understand the business of the War Room.”

Vinita further said, “We have roped in our ex-Registrar Dr Rakesh Kumar, who had quite a good experience of managing convocation.”

Road Issue and Honour Plans for Athletes

The VC is most concerned about the road to the venue. It’s not a metallic one. He wants a metallic road. The road to venue is a major issue.

Again, he wants to honour the great athletes of Jharkhand by having their cutouts in a polycarbonate frame.
