Jamshedpur, August 13: In a strong show of commitment towards strengthening India’s self-reliance and economic independence, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Jamshedpur Chapter, has taken a collective pledge under the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign.

The initiative aims to encourage citizens to prioritize indigenous products and support local businesses, thereby reducing dependence on foreign goods.

Speaking under the banner Bharat Ki Shapath (Pledge of India), CAIT members emphasized that making India strong and self-reliant is not only a responsibility but also a moral duty of every citizen.

The pledge outlines a series of commitments designed to directly benefit local manufacturers, artisans, traders, and the domestic economy.

According to the declaration, members resolved to:

  1. Promote ‘Vocal for Local’ Objectives – Always work towards furthering the goals of the movement.
  2. Support Local Businesses and Artisans – Encourage shopkeepers, workshops, cottage industries, weavers, and craftsmen by prioritizing their goods and services.
  3. Buy and Sell Indian-Made Products – Focus on purchasing and marketing goods manufactured in India.
  4. Encourage Physical Market Visits – Purchase products directly from local markets to strengthen neighbourhood businesses and sustain traditional marketplaces.
  5. Boycott Foreign Online Platforms – Avoid buying from overseas e-commerce sites that channel profits to rival economies.

The campaign is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India), which promotes the use of homegrown products to boost the national economy.

“The traders’ move is expected to galvanize consumer awareness in the region, urging residents to consciously shift their buying habits towards Indian goods, ” said Suresh Sonthalia, national secretary of CAIT and former president of the Sinhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He went on to say that CAIT’s  Jamshedpur Chapter believes that sustained public participation in such initiatives can not only strengthen the local economy but also create a ripple effect that benefits small-scale industries and traditional craftspeople across the country.
