Dhanbad, August 14: Engineering students of BIT Sindri have collectively pledged to help free society from drug addiction. The oath was taken during a special session under the Drug-Free India Campaign, organised by the institute’s Career Development Centre (CDC) in the C-51 building.

First-, second-, and third-year students from all branches participated, vowing to stay away from drugs and embrace a healthy lifestyle. The campaign is an initiative of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

BIT Sindri Director Prof. Pankaj Rai inaugurated the event, highlighting its importance and the role of students in shaping a healthy society.

The programme was led by Prof. Dr. Ghanshyam, Chairman of the Career Development Centre and Training & Placement Officer, who emphasised that the campaign’s primary goal is to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and inspire young people to work towards creating a drug-free environment.

In his address, Dr. Ghanshyam explained that drug addiction not only damages an individual’s health and career but also affects their family and society at large.

He encouraged students to make wise life choices and take the lead in spreading awareness to ensure the campus remains free from drugs. The session inspired participants to recognise their responsibility in building a safe and supportive community.

The organisers concluded the session by commending the efforts of the Career Development Centre for motivating students in a positive direction, reinforcing the message that the fight against addiction begins with one strong choice—the choice to say “No.”
