Ranchi, August 17: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today performed the final rites of his father, former Chief Minister and revered leader Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, at the sacred ghats of the Damodar River in Rajrappa.
Carrying the ashes from his native village, Nemra, Hemant Soren personally immersed them in the river, following age-old rural customs and traditional rituals conducted by the local Pahan. He was accompanied by his younger brother, MLA Basant Soren, other family members, and villagers from Nemra, who stood in solemn support.
With tearful eyes, the Chief Minister bid farewell to “Guruji”, a towering figure in Jharkhand’s political and social history. The grief of losing his father was deeply evident as he carried out the rituals, symbolising not only a personal loss but also the collective sorrow of the people of Jharkhand.
