Hazaribagh, August 21: In a major crackdown, Hazaribagh Police raided six hotels and restaurants along the Ranchi-Patna NH-33 and unearthed an alleged sex racket being run under the guise of hotel operations. The late-night operation led to the arrest of 17 people, while all six hotels were sealed on official orders.

Secret Tip-Off Leads to Raids

The Superintendent of Police, Hazaribagh, had been receiving intelligence for several days about illegal prostitution being facilitated in hotels on the busy highway stretch. Following the tip, a special team was formed and raids were carried out simultaneously under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Amit Anand (IPS).

The team included 6 magistrates, 12 police officers and a sizeable women’s police contingent to ensure proper handling of the situation.

Hotels Under the Scanner

The raids targeted the following establishments:

  • Hotel Siddhi Vinayak
  • Hotel Spicy Villa
  • Hotel 2-Eight
  • Hotel Varnika
  • Hotel 7-Days
  • Hotel Rukmani

Police reported that these hotels were providing rooms for one to two hours without identity checks or record entries, while also supplying contraceptives and pills to customers.

Couples Detained, Staff Arrested

During the operation, police detained 30 couples from the hotels. They were later released after their families were contacted.

Meanwhile, 17 hotel operators, managers, and staff were arrested and are being sent to judicial custody. The list includes multiple operators from Hazaribagh and Ichak, as well as staff from neighbouring Giridih and West Bengal.

Arrested Persons

Those taken into custody include Ajay Kumar and Dheeraj Kumar, Shishu Kumar, Naveen Kumar, Vishal Kumar, Ranjit Kumar, another Ajay Kumar, Anshu Kumar, Yuvraj Mehta, Ajit Kumar Gupta, Shubham Kumar, Bablu Kumar, Jayant Manjhi, Ramdev Kumar Mahato, Dilip Kumar, another Shubham Kumar, and Sanjay Kumar Saw.

Legal Action Underway

A case has been registered at Mufassil Police Station (Case No. 141/25, dated 20.08.2025) against the accused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1956.

Police Warning

In a strong message, Hazaribagh Police stated:

“Such illegal activities will not be tolerated. Those found indulging in or supporting these acts in the future will face stricter action.”
