Low-pressure to trigger heavy rain in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, August 29: The Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, has issued a weather alert for Jharkhand predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in several parts of the state over the next three days, influenced by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

August 29: Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over the south-eastern and north-eastern districts of Jharkhand. Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph) may occur at isolated locations across the state.

Meanwhile, the monsoon trough was currently passing through Bikaner, Banasthali, Damoh, Pendra Road, and the centre of the well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, stretching southeastward into the east-central Bay.

Jharkhand has already received 1004.5 mm of rainfall this monsoon season (June 1 to August 27, 2025), which is 31% above normal (768.5 mm).

Districts like East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Ranchi, and Latehar have recorded significant excess rainfall, while a few districts such as Deoghar (-5%) and Pakur (-16%) remain slightly deficient.

The IMD has advised residents to remain alert, particularly in vulnerable areas prone to waterlogging, lightning, and gusty winds.
