New Delhi, Sept 11: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a strong advisory to Indian citizens, warning them not to fall prey to offers of recruitment into the Russian Army, citing potential dangers.

The warning comes amid reports that some Indians have recently been recruited into Russia’s armed forces.

Addressing the media on Thursday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Indian nationals should steer clear of such proposals. “We have seen reports about the recruitment of Indian citizens into the Russian Army,” he noted.

Jaiswal further stated that the matter has been raised with Russian authorities both in Moscow and in New Delhi.

India has requested that any Indian nationals who have been enlisted be sent back. He added that the MEA is also in touch with the families of affected individuals.
