Jamshedpur, Sept 20: Train services in the Chakradharpur railway division and parts of Kharagpur division were affected as people belonging to the Kurmi Samaj resorted to train “Chakka Jam” agitation from early this morning.
The protestors have blocked the railway tracks at various places in support of their demands to include the Kurmi caste in the list of Scheduled Tribes and also include Kurmali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
The protestors have blocked the track at Chandrapura station near Galudih in the Tata-Kharagpur section, at Haldipokhar in the Tata-Badampahar section and at Raibasa station in Gamharia as well as Sinni Station in Seraikela in the Tata-Chandil section.

At Chandrapura station, which comes under Kharagpur railway division, some of the protestors lay on the track, preventing movement of several important trains from plying to Howrah as well as to Tatanagar.
As a result of the situation, the trains had to remain stranded at Jhargram and Tatanagar stations.
A similar situation prevails in the Raibasa and Sinni stations, which fall under the Chakradharpur railway division.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Chakradharpur, Aditya Choudhary confirmed that train services have been affected due to agitation at the railway tracks near various stations in the Chakradharpur division since morning.

“Till about 11.00 am, and the agitation on the tracks is still on. Several trains are stranded due to the protest. We are holding negotiations with the leaders of the agitating outfits to lift the blockers,” said the senior DCM while talking to The Jharkhand Story.
As a result of several trains remaining stranded, passengers are compelled to suffer immensely.
