Daltonganj, September 26: Palamu police have cracked a case where a shaving blade was used for kidnapping to murder and the loot of a car.

This is the first case of its kind where a shaving blade has been used for such a heinous crime like kidnapping in order to murder and loot movable property.

Police have found out that the car and the man whose throat was slit with the shaving blade by the kidnappers, has survived in extremely unspeakable circumstances.

SP Palamu Reeshma Ramesan told this correspondent, “Paton police have nabbed three people identified as Amit Kumar Dubey alias Raj Kamal Dubey, 28, Golu Kumar, 18 and Vikas Kumar, 19.”

These three arrested on September 23 were forwarded to judicial custody on September 24 evening in the Central Jail of Daltonganj.

Charges and Sequence of Events

Police have booked these three under sections 140 (kidnapping in order to murder), 109 (attempt to murder), 118 (causing grievous hurt by dangerous means) and 303 (theft) of the BNS.

According to the SP, ” One Vinay Kumar Gupta, 30, befriended these three Dubey, Golu and Vikas for a pint of liquor. They later dined together.”

Later, these three, with one mind, conspired with each other to kidnap Gupta and further to run away with his car, added the SP.

As the three had no weapon to pin down Gupta, they found out a shaving blade, and with this, they slit the throat of Gupta, told the SP.

This heinous crime took place right inside the car.

“In the meantime, these three saw from a distance a police patrol car coming and they changed the route”, added the SP.

The three abandoned the car, leaving behind the grievously injured Gupta in the back seat.

It’s like a divine intervention here.

The grievously injured Gupta survived bleeding for the whole night.

Survival Against Odds

This incident occurred on the intervening night of August 31 and September 1, 2025, near Koriyadedh village under the Paton police station limits.

“Gupta came on his own to the police outpost at Kishunpur on the morning of September 1 with bandages around his slit throat and narrated how he survived a near murder of him by the three with whom he had wined and dined on the night of August 31,” reiterated the SP.

Kishunpur police registered his narration on September 1 and started their investigation.

Breakthrough and Arrests

Police got their first break when they zeroed in on Amit Kumar Dubey, alias Raj Kamal Dubey, whose house was raided. Dubey was arrested on September 23.

Dubey took the names of two more, Golu and Vikas. These two were arrested on the same September 23.

The trio have confessed to their crime of slitting the throat of Gupta, said the SP.

It was a friendship by chance of the four, Gupta and these three!

Gupta was given treatment first in the Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) in Daltonganj, from where he was referred to the higher centre in Ranchi.

He is recovering fast, said the police.

The victim Gupta hails from Haidernagar block, while his friends, turned kidnappers, Dubey, Golu and Vikas, come from Nawa Bazar block.

Evidence and Legal Action

Hiding or destroying a shaving blade is quite easy, and so the police didn’t waste time finding out the shaving blade.

Police will now go for a TI (Test Identification) parade of the three once Gupta gets all well, to fight the legal battle in the court of law against the three with physical evidence of the three, as a shaving blade, the tiniest dangerous means could have never been retrieved.

However, police have retrieved the looted cell phone of the injured victim from the kidnappers, which is a vital recovery in this case of a bid on life.

Sadar SDPO Mani Bhushan Prasad, under the monitoring of the SP Reeshma Ramesan, got the case cracked by the team of the Paton police station quite meticulously.
