Jamshedpur, Oct 30: A five-member central inspection team from Delhi and Ranchi conducted a surprise inspection at the MGM Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) Blood Bank in Jamshedpur following reports of serious irregularities at the Chaibasa Blood Bank.
The team, comprising officials from the National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) and the Jharkhand State Blood Cell under the National Health Mission (NHM), carried out a detailed probe into record discrepancies, data entry lapses, and stock management issues.
During the inspection, the experts examined manual registers, donor lists, and storage records, comparing them with entries uploaded on the e-RaktKosh portal, the national digital blood bank monitoring system.

Officials expressed concern over delays in data updates and possible mismatches between physical stock and online records.
They directed the hospital management to immediately synchronize all entries with the central database and ensure daily online updates.
The team also checked the blood storage equipment, refrigeration units, component separation room, and transfusion safety measures, verifying whether standard protocols were being followed.
Hospital insiders said the central team also interacted with the blood bank in-charge, technicians, and the MGM superintendent, seeking clarifications on documentation practices and supply chain records.
A senior NHM official said the inspection was part of a statewide audit drive to strengthen transparency in blood bank operations.

“Any irregularities found will be dealt with strictly. The goal is to ensure every drop of blood collected and transfused is accounted for,” the official remarked.
The inspection report will soon be submitted to the Union Health Ministry and the Jharkhand Health Department.
Sources indicated that more surprise checks could follow in other districts amid growing concerns about mishandling and misreporting of bloodstock data.
