Ranchi, Nov 7: International Master (IM) Aryan Varshney of Haryana and Kumar Gaurav of Bihar maintained their lead in the title race after the completion of the fourth round of the All India FIDE Rating Chess Tournament being held at Chaibasa in West Singhbhum.

In the fourth round, top seed Aryan Varshney (rating 2495) defeated Shubham Kumar of Bihar, while Kumar Gaurav secured a win against Umesh Shah of Jharkhand.

Earlier, in the third round, Varshney earned a full point against Arhan Chatterjee, Subhayan Kundu of Bengal beat Devanjal Sasmal, and Kumar Gaurav overcame Swarnwa Roy.

On other boards, Shreyash Shubham Patnayak of Odisha defeated Rishav Kumar. An exciting encounter on board three between Amit Tiwari and Shailesh Jaiswal ended in a draw.

West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Chandan Kumar also visited the tournament venue to encourage participants to showcase their best games.

Appreciating the District Chess Association for organizing a national-level event, he expressed hope that in the coming years, Chaibasa would produce International Masters (IMs) and Grand Masters (GMs).

District Association President Mukund Rungta, General Secretary Basant Khandelwal, and other office bearers were also present during the visit.
