PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Nov 10: A significant drop in minimum temperatures has triggered cold wave conditions in isolated pockets of north-western Jharkhand and regions bordering north Chhattisgarh, according to the latest forecast issued for November 10 and 11.

Weather officials said no major synoptic system currently affects Jharkhand.

However, north-westerly to northerly winds are dominating up to the mid-tropospheric level, allowing cold, dry air to flow into the state.

Dry weather prevailed across Jharkhand over the past 24 hours.

Highest maximum temperature: 31.8°C at Chaibasa

Lowest minimum temperature: 09.6°C at Khunti, marking one of the sharpest drops of the season.

Impact of the Cold Wave:

The sudden temperature dip is expected to affect early-morning commuters, elderly citizens, and people with respiratory or cardiac vulnerabilities.

Health experts advise residents to:

Use adequate winter clothing during late evening and early morning hours

Avoid outdoor exposure for long durations

Take precautions against dry skin, cough, and cold-related ailments

Ensure children and senior citizens stay warm

Agriculture departments have also alerted farmers about possible stress on standing crops—especially vegetables and pulse varieties sensitive to low night temperatures.

The cold wave conditions are expected to persist in isolated pockets for the next 24–48 hours, with the rest of the state continuing to witness dry and cool weather.
