Marandi demands NIA probe into gangster Sujit Sinha–ex-DGP Anurag Gupta nexus

Ranchi, November 13: BJP State President and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi has demanded a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the alleged nexus between gangster Sujit Sinha and former DGP Anurag Gupta, claiming that the alliance thrived under Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s government.

Addressing a press conference in Ranchi, Marandi said he would write a letter to the NIA seeking a detailed investigation into the alleged criminal and administrative links, calling it “a dangerous merger of crime and governance.”

Link to Bharatmala Project and Extortion Network

According to Marandi, Gupta’s rise was tied to illegal tenders and extortion rackets linked to the Bharatmala Project and Sujit Sinha’s Koylanchal Shanti Samiti. He claimed Gupta and Sinha had struck a deal, with Gupta holding a 40% stake in their illegal operations.

Marandi also alleged that the fake encounter of gangster Aman Sahu was part of the internal rivalry between Gupta and Sinha’s gangs. He said that after Riya Sinha’s arrest, WhatsApp chats between her and Gupta revealed money transactions, extortion plans, and coordination behind the encounter.

“The chats clearly show that Anurag Gupta was the kingpin of the KoylaNchal Shanti Samiti,” he said.

Weapons Imported From Pakistan via Drones

Marandi alleged that 21 foreign weapons were smuggled from Pakistan via drones through Moga, Punjab, and used by the Sujit Sinha–Prince Khan gang for extortion across India. He said Riya Sinha managed this network while her husband operated from jail.

On October 13, 2025, police arrested Riya Sinha and others, seizing three pistols, seven magazines, 13 bullets, a car, and a mobile phone.

CID, ACB Officials Accused of Extortion

Marandi also accused CID and ACB officials, including SSP Deepak Kumar and DSP Amar Pandey, of running an extortion racket under Gupta’s supervision. He alleged that the CID’s Special Investigation Team looted people under the guise of inquiries based on fake petitions.

“When this gang began threatening even those linked to the Chief Minister, action was taken to cover up the matter,” he said. Deepak Kumar was transferred to Mohanpur Commandant, and Anurag Gupta was removed, Marandi claimed.

 “CM Must Explain His Role”

Marandi demanded that Chief Minister Hemant Soren clarify whether he was aware of this nexus. He said, “If the Chief Minister has the courage, he should order a high-level probe into Anurag Gupta’s tenure.”

State media in-charge Shivpujan Pathak and spokesperson Ajay Sah were also present at the press conference.
