Dhanbad, Nov 27: The Department of Physics, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad organised a centenary lecture on Thursday on the Importance of Science and Technology in Daily Life, bringing together students, researchers and distinguished academicians.
Deputy Director applauds initiative
Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director and chief guest of the function, appreciated the department’s efforts and emphasised the importance of such lectures in motivating students to pursue research in fundamental sciences.
Award-winning IIT Kanpur professor delivers keynote
Prof. Amit Kumar Agarwal from the Department of Physics, IIT Kanpur, and recipient of the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar – Vigyan Yuva–Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award 2025, delivered the keynote address.
He explained the deep connection between science, technology and daily life, illustrating how scientific thinking drives innovations that shape society at every level.

Encouraging students to cultivate an inquisitive mindset, he highlighted the role of sustained scientific research in national development. His interaction with students and researchers led to a vibrant discussion on emerging scientific challenges.
Faculty highlight significance of centenary outreach
Programme coordinator Prof. R. Thangavel welcomed the guests and underlined the importance of fostering scientific curiosity among young minds as part of the department’s centenary-year outreach initiatives.
Head of the Department, Prof. V. K. Rai, said the centenary lectures are aimed at bringing leading scientists to the campus to inspire learners and strengthen academic engagement.
KV students get hands-on exposure
Earlier in the day, students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dhanbad visited the laboratories of the Physics Department, observed experimental facilities, interacted with faculty, and received hands-on exposure to scientific instruments.
