National workshop on nanoparticle synthesis concludes at IIT ISM Dhanbad

 

Dhanbad, Dec 16: A two-day national workshop on Nanoparticle Synthesis and Luminescence Techniques successfully concluded at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

The workshop was organized under the Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) initiative of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India, at the Department of Physics, IIT ISM.

Prof. Kaushal Kumar inaugurated the event, emphasizing the growing importance of hands-on experimental training in materials science and nanotechnology research.

Prof. Vineet Kumar Rai, Head of the Department of Physics, highlighted the significance of luminescence studies and underlined the department’s expanding role in contributing to globally relevant research and advanced experimental education.

Prof. Supratim Giri from NIT Rourkela delivered insights on “Crystal Engineering of Upconverting Lattice: Applications and Fundamentals,” discussing the design and application of upconverting materials.

Dr. Neeraj Kumar Mishra from IISER Mohali, in an online session, covered steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, explaining both foundational principles and advanced research applications.

Organizers noted that the workshop aimed to bridge the gap between theory and practice by facilitating close interaction between students and leading scientists, while providing direct exposure to advanced research instrumentation and techniques.

The programme focused on strengthening experimental skills and deepening theoretical understanding in the rapidly evolving fields of luminescence measurement techniques and nanoparticle synthesis, which are crucial for modern sensing, imaging, and photonic applications.
