Jamshedpur, January 5: A middle-aged woman was arrested with brown sugar worth around ₹3.2 lakh during an anti-crime checking drive conducted by police under Kapali OP in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Sunday evening.
15.99 Grams of Brown Sugar Recovered
The accused has been identified as Resma Perveen, a resident of Hasadungri in Kapali. Police recovered 15.99 grams of brown sugar from her possession during the checking operation.
According to police, Resma was riding her Scooty across a narrow bridge at Hasadungri, where routine anti-crime checking was underway. On spotting the police, she abruptly took a U-turn and entered another road inside the densely populated locality.

Her sudden move raised suspicion, prompting the police to chase and surround the area, following which she was caught.

Arrested Under NDPS Act
After being frisked by a lady police constable, the narcotic substance was recovered. Resma was taken into custody and later arrested under the NDPS Act.
She was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody on Monday.
Link to Notorious Drug Racket Suspected
Kapali OP in-charge Dhirendra Kumar said that Resma earlier lived in Adityapur Muslim Bustee, an area linked to notorious drug supplier Dolly Perveen, who later shifted to Hasadungri.
He added that Resma is a distant relative of Dolly Perveen, who had allegedly supplied narcotic drugs across the Kolhan region and the bordering districts of Odisha. Dolly Perveen was arrested in 2019 and is currently out on bail.
Police Crackdown to Continue
Meanwhile, Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Mukesh Lunayet has instructed officers to keep a close watch on bailers of accused persons, particularly those charge-sheeted under narcotics and Arms Act cases, as part of a wider crackdown on crime.
