Dhanbad, Jan 10: A 10-day Field Survey programme for third-semester students (2024–2028 batch) of the Civil Engineering Department, BIT Sindri, began on Friday.

Students Undertake Practical Survey Work

Prof. Prafulla Kumar Sharma, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, said that on the first day, students actively carried out field survey work using surveying instruments at various locations within the institute campus.

The survey areas included the Main Gate, Alumni House, areas near the Administrative Building, Nand Gokulam area, Club Ground, OP Police Station area, and Durga Mandap.

Faculty Provide Technical Guidance

The programme coordinators, Prof. Iqbal Sheikh and Prof. Prashant Ranjan Malviya, ensured the smooth execution of the programme and provided continuous technical guidance to the students.

Several faculty members actively participated on the first day, including Prof. Jeetu Kujur, Prof. Maya Rajnarayan Ray, Prof. Nishikant Kisku, Dr. Komal Kumari, Dr. Abhijit Anand, and Prof. Saroj Meena.

On the occasion, BIT Sindri Director Prof. Pankaj Rai appreciated the academic and practical initiative of the Civil Engineering Department. He guided students on the importance of practical education, technical proficiency and field-oriented learning.

A student said that the director’s address and guidance infused energy and enthusiasm among participants on the first day of the programme.

Building Industry-Oriented Skills

Prof. Sharma said the smooth conduct of the Field Survey programme was made possible due to the significant contributions of faculty members, technical and non-teaching staff, and postgraduate students of the department.

He added that the programme is a crucial step in developing students’ in-depth understanding of surveying techniques under real-world conditions and in equipping them with industry-oriented practical skills.
