Vivekananda Jayanti celebrated with grandeur at Sona Devi University

Jamshedpur, January 12: Ghatshila witnessed a dignified and inspiring celebration of National Youth Day as Sona Devi University observed the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium on its campus.

The programme brought together faculty members, administrators and students to pay tribute to one of India’s greatest spiritual leaders and national icons, whose teachings continue to guide and motivate the youth.

Ceremonial Opening Sets the Tone

The celebration began with Vedic chants, floral tributes and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, creating an atmosphere of reverence and spiritual positivity.

The event was anchored with poise and clarity by Kumari Nikita, Assistant Professor of Sanskrit, whose graceful conduct added rhythm and dignity to the proceedings.

Scholarly Reflections on Vivekananda’s Philosophy

Dr Sujit Kumar, Head of the Department of Sanskrit, spoke on the life and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, highlighting his timeless messages of self-belief, discipline, service and fearless thinking.

Dr Kanchan Sinha, Head of the Department of History, emphasised Vivekananda’s revolutionary ideas on education, stating that true education must go beyond employment and focus on character building, moral strength and national responsibility.

Cultural Tribute through Rabindra Sangeet

The cultural essence of the programme was beautifully expressed through a Rabindra Sangeet performance by Krishnendu Dutta, Head of the Department of Mathematics. His soulful rendition, rooted in Swami Vivekananda’s favourite musical tradition, deeply moved the audience.

Vivekananda’s Relevance in Modern India

Dr Shivchand Jha, Head of the Department of Political Science, spoke on Swami Vivekananda’s vision of cultural nationalism. He noted that as India advances in science, technology, economic growth and global diplomacy, Vivekananda’s ideas remain profoundly relevant.

Dr Dharani Mahato, Assistant Professor of Bengali, reflected on Swami Vivekananda’s personal struggles and spiritual journey, stressing that perseverance and inner strength are key lessons for today’s youth.

University Leadership Inspires Students

Registrar Dr Nit Nayana said Swami Vivekananda continues to inspire young people with optimism, dedication and social responsibility. She added that Sona Devi University is committed to nurturing value-driven, socially responsible and nationally conscious citizens alongside academic excellence.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Braj Mohan Pat Pingua described National Youth Day as a time for self-reflection and renewal. He said that if the youth adopt Vivekananda’s ideals, India will grow not only materially but also morally, culturally and spiritually.

Chancellor Recalls Historic Anecdote

Presiding over the programme, Chancellor Prabhakar Singh highlighted the towering legacy of Swami Vivekananda and urged students to aim high, become self-reliant and actively contribute to nation-building.

He also recalled a significant historical episode from Swami Vivekananda’s journey to the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago, when his interactions with Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on India’s natural resources and industrial potential—particularly in the Tatanagar region—later inspired the establishment of Tata Steel.

Programme Concludes on Uplifting Note

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving students and faculty with a renewed sense of confidence, purpose and pride.

The celebration not only honoured Swami Vivekananda’s legacy but also reinforced his enduring message to the youth—to rise with courage, character and unwavering commitment to the nation.
