Dhanbad, December 23: Bokaro Steel City College Bokaro and Katras College were left unrepresented in the teachers’ association of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad.

BBMKU has ten constituent colleges.

Barring BS City College Bokaro and Katras College, all constituent units got representation in the election of the Teachers Association, which concluded on December 20.

Premier institutions of BBMKU

The omission of BS City College Bokaro in the body remains significant as it is one of the premier institutions of BBMKU. When the first election of the Teachers Association was held in 2018, Dr RK Tiwari (BS City College) was elected the first president.

Though Dr DK Singh of the college had filed a nomination for the vice-president post, he and Dr Masum Siddique of the post-graduate department withdrew their names on December 4.

A senior teacher of PG who was active in the election process said Dr DK Singh was betrayed in the poll. In the name of the unanimous selection of all five vice-president posts, being senior, he withdrew his name, but mentors of other candidates refused to remove names at the last moment.

However, Dr DK Singh said that nobody betrayed him in the poll. “No doubt BS City College is a premier institution, and its representation should have been in the BBMKUTA. That is why I filed a nomination, but for personal reasons, I withdrew. No one betrayed me,” he maintained.

Former BBMKUT president Dr RK Tiwari, who was elected in 2018 as a BS City college candidate, said representation should have been given. Still, he needs to know why no one contested, as he has been shifted to the PG department.

The president, general secretary, five secretaries and treasurer were unanimously elected in the election. The election was held only for five posts of V-P in which three candidates, Dr DK Singh, Dr Maum Siddique and Dr Sarmistha Acharyya, were from the 2018 batch and 5 candidates from the 2018 batch.

2008 batch teachers

Dr DK Singh and Dr Masum Siddique ( PG department), who withdrew names, were from the 2008 batch and had enough influence to sail over the poll.

A group of senior teachers had also proposed to give all college representation in the body.

They pleaded that there were ten constituent colleges and had ten posts of V-P and secretary. Each seat should be distributed in each college to avoid election.

Newly elected general secretary Dr Amulya Suman Beck said he wanted the participation of all college teachers in the interest of the teachers’ community.
