Dhanbad, Feb 2: The postgraduate doctors’ team of Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) clinched first place in the state-level PG Orthopaedic Quiz Contest held during the 18th JOACON at Bokaro Club on Sunday evening.
The PG teams from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, and Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad, secured the second and third positions, respectively.
Close Contest Among Top Teams
The SNMMCH Dhanbad team, comprising Dr Saurabh Kumar (PGT, 2nd year) and Dr Jyotam Singh Juneja (PGT, 2nd year), finished just one point behind runners-up RIMS Ranchi after three competitive rounds.

The AIIMS Deoghar team secured the fourth position.

Wide Participation Across Jharkhand
A total of ten teams, each consisting of two postgraduate students, participated in the quiz from medical institutions across Jharkhand. These included three teams from RIMS Ranchi, two teams each from AIIMS Deoghar and BGH Bokaro, and one team each from MGMMCH Jamshedpur, TMH Jamshedpur, and SNMMCH Dhanbad.

Three-Round Academic Challenge
Organising committee members said the contest was highly competitive and conducted in three rounds. The first round was “Know Your Masters”, the second focused on diagnosing common clinical conditions, and the third round tested participants on imaging-based questions.
SNMMCH Faculty Praises Team Performance
SNMMCH Head of the Orthopaedics Department, Prof V. P. Sinha, congratulated the Dhanbad team for securing third position and said they had kept the institution’s head high through dedication and academic excellence.
“Despite trailing after the first round, the SNMMCH team showed remarkable academic resilience, performed strongly in the second round, and maintained consistency in the final imaging round to secure third place,” he said.
University Dean Encourages Students
Prof Dr D. K. Gindauria, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, BBMK University, also congratulated the students and encouraged them to aim for national-level quiz competitions. He formally honoured the SNMMCH team for their achievement and urged them to continue bringing laurels to the institution.
