Ranchi, March 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday felicitated newly elected civic representatives backed by the party’s ideological family at a function in Ranchi, with senior leaders using the occasion to target the Hemant Soren government and claim that the civic poll results indicate growing support for the BJP in the state.

The felicitation ceremony was held at Geetanjali Banquet Hall in Chiraundi, Ranchi, under the chairmanship of state BJP president and MP Aditya Sahu. The programme was attended by BJP national general secretary and MP Arun Singh, Union Minister Sanjay Seth, former chief minister Arjun Munda, organisational general secretary Karmaveer Singh, MPs, MLAs and party office-bearers.

According to party leaders, three mayors, six municipal council presidents, six Nagar Panchayat presidents and 387 councillors attended the programme and were honoured with shawls and bouquets.

Civic poll winners from across Jharkhand honoured

The mayors of Ranchi, Medininagar and Adityapur municipal corporations attended the ceremony along with municipal council chiefs from Lohardaga, Gumla, Mihijam and Chirkunda and Nagar Panchayat presidents from Khunti, Latehar, Domchanch, Jamtara and Mahagama.

Senior BJP leaders felicitated the representatives and showered flower petals on them in the hall as a mark of appreciation for their electoral victories.

Leaders also extended greetings to women representatives on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

‘Be the Narendra Modi of your municipality’: Aditya Sahu

Addressing the gathering, state BJP president Aditya Sahu congratulated the newly elected representatives and urged them to become “Narendra Modis of their respective municipal bodies”.

He said the civic representatives must ensure 100 per cent implementation of welfare schemes and development programmes, particularly for poor families and residents of urban slums.

Sahu alleged that the state government had delayed civic elections and that the polls were conducted only after pressure from the BJP and court intervention.

“The results of the civic elections show that the people of Jharkhand stand with the BJP. This winning streak must continue. A new dawn is yet to come in Jharkhand,” he said while criticising the state government.

Civic poll results a setback for ruling alliance: Arun Singh

BJP national general secretary Arun Singh said the outcome of the civic elections had delivered a strong political message against the ruling alliance.

He claimed that if the elections had been conducted on party symbols, the ruling coalition would have been decisively defeated.

“Across the country, mayoral elections are held on party symbols. In Jharkhand, the government avoided it out of fear,” Singh said, expressing confidence that the BJP would form the next government in the state.

Arjun Munda calls for model civic administration

Former chief minister Arjun Munda congratulated the newly elected civic representatives and urged them to establish a transparent and development-oriented model of governance in their municipal bodies.

He said urban local bodies play a crucial role in improving everyday civic services such as roads, sanitation, water supply and waste management.

Munda emphasised that the work of civic representatives would contribute to the broader national vision of “Viksit Bharat”, adding that development at the grassroots level is essential for achieving the goal of a developed India.

Sanjay Seth highlights role of urban governance

Union Minister Sanjay Seth said the newly elected civic representatives have an important responsibility to strengthen urban governance and accelerate development in cities and towns across Jharkhand.

He said several development initiatives launched by the Narendra Modi government, including schemes related to housing, sanitation, drinking water and urban infrastructure, must be implemented effectively at the municipal level.

Seth urged the representatives to ensure that the benefits of these schemes reach every household.

BJP credits grassroots support

National president of the BJP Scheduled Tribes Front, Sameer Oraon, said the victory of BJP-supported candidates in tribal-dominated areas such as Gumla, Lohardaga and Khunti reflects the party’s strong support base.

He credited party workers for the success and thanked voters for their continued trust in the BJP.

Several party leaders and legislators, including Naveen Jaiswal, C P Singh, Ujjwal Das, and former state president Yadu Nath Pandey, were also present at the programme.
