Ranchi, April 3: The Chitrapata Jharkhand Film Festival 2026 will be held from June 26 to 28 at Sarala Birla University in Ranchi, offering a platform for filmmakers from the state to showcase their creative work and promote regional cinema.
Poster launched by Governor
The festival poster was officially launched at Lok Bhawan by Governor Santosh Gangwar in the presence of several dignitaries, including RSS All India Publicity Chief Sunil Ambekar and other officials.

Focus on local stories and culture
Organised by Chitrapata Jharkhand, the festival aims to highlight the state’s historical, cultural and social narratives while promoting the message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
Only filmmakers from Jharkhand are eligible to participate.

Categories and eligibility
The competition will feature three categories:
- Short Film (up to 20 minutes)
- Documentary (up to 30 minutes)
- Campus Film (up to 15 minutes)
Films must be produced after July 1, 2023. Entries in regional languages are allowed, with mandatory Hindi or English subtitles.
Fees, themes and deadlines
Registration fees are ₹500 for short films and documentaries, and ₹250 for campus films. Students can submit entries in any category for ₹250.
Films can be based on 12 themes, including tribal society, women’s empowerment, environment, migration, digital change and corruption.
The last date for submission is June 7, 2026, and selected entries will be announced on June 15.
₹2.7 lakh prize pool
The festival offers total cash prizes worth ₹2.7 lakh, providing a significant opportunity for emerging filmmakers in Jharkhand.
