PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, April 7: A spell of unstable weather is set to continue across Jharkhand till April 9, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds in multiple regions of the state.

Thunderstorms and Strong Winds on April 7

On April 7, thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds (50–60 kmph) are likely at isolated places in the central and southern parts of Jharkhand. Other regions may also experience similar weather activity, with slightly lower wind speeds of 40–50 kmph.

Hailstorm Alert as Weather Intensifies on April 8

The weather is expected to intensify on April 8, with hailstorms likely in north-eastern, southern, and adjoining central districts. These areas may also witness thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and gusty winds up to 60 kmph, while the rest of the state could see moderate thunderstorms with winds of 40–50 kmph.

Storm Activity to Continue Till April 9

By April 9, thunderstorm activity in Jharkhand is expected to persist, especially in the north-eastern, southern, and central regions, accompanied by lightning and winds of 40–50 kmph.

According to the IMD, the current weather pattern is being influenced by a trough extending from northeast Uttar Pradesh to east Vidarbha across eastern Madhya Pradesh at around 1.5 km above mean sea level, along with an upper air cyclonic circulation over Odisha and nearby areas at about 0.9 km above mean sea level.

In the past 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms was recorded across several parts of Jharkhand. The highest rainfall of 27 mm was reported from Garu in Latehar district, while Jamshedpur and nearby areas received around 5 mm of rain.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning, avoid open areas, and take necessary precautions during strong winds and severe weather conditions.
