Ranchi, April 14: Police have detained another suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a medical student in Ranchi, even as the investigation into the case continues to widen. One accused, identified as Danish, has already been arrested.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of April 9 in the Lalpur police station area. According to police sources, the victim had gone to Gokul Vatika Apartments after being invited by a friend, Oli Vishwakarma, to attend a birthday gathering.
Victim allegedly drugged
The student later found that no other guests were present and decided to leave. However, a few individuals present at the location allegedly persuaded her to stay. During the gathering, she was reportedly given food items suspected to have been laced with an intoxicating substance, after which she lost consciousness.
Police said Danish, who is a doctor and reportedly the boyfriend of the host, has been accused of sexually assaulting the victim while she was unconscious.

Investigation underway
Following the incident, the victim’s health deteriorated, and she was admitted to a private hospital on April 11. The matter came to light after she approached the police and recorded her statement at Lalpur police station.
Police have launched a detailed investigation and are questioning another detained accused to determine the involvement of others present at the scene. Officials said efforts are underway to establish the full sequence of events and identify all those involved.
The accused Danish was apprehended while allegedly attempting to flee. Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
