PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, April 15: A sharp rise in temperatures swept across Jharkhand on Wednesday, with Daltonganj recording the highest temperature at 42.6°C, followed by Jamshedpur at 40.2°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Temperatures Surge Across State

As per the IMD evening bulletin issued from Ranchi, several key cities reported above-normal temperatures:

  • Daltonganj: 42.6°C (+3.0°C above normal) — highest in the state
  • Jamshedpur: 40.2°C (+0.6°C above normal)
  • Ranchi: 37.8°C (+1.9°C above normal)
  • Bokaro: 38.2°C (-0.6°C below normal)

Minimum Temperatures

Minimum temperatures showed mixed trends across the state:

  • Ranchi: 19.9°C (-1.8°C)
  • Jamshedpur: 24.4°C (+0.8°C)
  • Daltonganj: 19.1°C (-3.0°C)
  • Bokaro: 19.1°C (-0.3°C)

No rainfall was recorded across major stations between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, indicating dry weather conditions contributing to the heat build-up.

Heat Builds Up Across Districts

Data from Automated Weather Stations (AWS) showed several districts experiencing high temperatures:

  • Seraikela: 40.6°C
  • Palamu: 40.3°C
  • Godda: 39.4°C
  • Pakur: 39.2°C
  • Bokaro: 38.8°C
  • Hazaribagh: 38.6°C

Most stations recorded above-normal temperatures, pointing to a widespread rise in heat levels.

The data indicates developing heatwave-like conditions, particularly in the western and southern parts of Jharkhand. The sharp rise in Daltonganj’s temperature and Jamshedpur crossing the 40°C mark reflects increasing discomfort levels.

Outlook

With no rainfall activity and continued above-normal temperatures, heat conditions are expected to persist over the coming days.

Residents have been advised to take precautions and avoid prolonged exposure to heat, especially during peak afternoon hours.
